La Siembra Co-operative celebrates Co-op Week with the launch of their new packaging designs featuring their Canadian Worker Co-op identity.

Ottawa, Ontario, October 11th, 2020

La Siembra Co-operative, the owner of the Camino brand of fair trade and organic chocolate and sugar, celebrates Co-op Week with the launch of their new packaging designs featuring their Canadian Worker Co-op identity.

In an abundance of product certifications, integrity claims and eco/ethical labels, Camino – a nationally recognized shelf-favourite in the natural and organic confectionery market – wants to bring attention to and promote their Canadian Co-operative identity, as well as the strength of co-operatives, to support a more sustainable and democratic food system.

“As more people question our current economic paradigm and seek out alternatives, we see an opportunity to put our Canadian worker co-operative identity right out front. By buying Camino, consumers will know that they are increasing the market share for co-operatively produced commodities, grown and harvested by small farmer communities through mutual co-operation and fair trade.” Says Kelly Storie, Executive Director, La Siembra Co-operative/Camino Inc.

In 2019/2020, La Siembra purchased 1000 metric tons of fair trade food from small producer co-operatives around the world. These purchases not only provide farmers with a source of equitable income but also facilitates co-operative to co-operative trade North-South.

Canadians can expect to see Camino’s new Canadian Worker Co-op logo appear on the baking product line this autumn.
