Cold Brew Coffee
It’s summertime, and that can mean only one thing for coffee lovers: cold brew! While cold brew coffee is all the rage at cafés lately, it’s surprisingly easy to make yourself at home with a few simple household items.
Ingredients
- 64 oz. mason jar with a two-piece lid
- 1 litre of cool water (use filtered water for optimal results)
- 1/2 lb of finely ground coffee from Equal Exchange
- a filter, such as cheesecloth or a standard coffee filter
Directions
- Measure out your water into a clean container.
- Measure out and finely grind your coffee into a separate clean container.
- Put your ground coffee directly into the mason jar.
- Slowly pour your water into the mason jar in a steady circular motion.
- Gently submerge all of the coffee grounds with a butter knife.
- Let the coffee steep for 12 hours.
- Remove the center lid piece from the mason jar and use the outer ring to secure the coffee filter or cheesecloth to the top of the mason jar mouth.
- Gently invert the mason jar over a clean glass container that you will use to store your concentrate.
- Be patient, this may take a few minutes – let drain completely.
- Your finished coffee concentrate can now be diluted with water or milk at a 1:1 ratio.
